The Hammer and Pincers

An old style country pub with at least four rooms, some inaccessible for the disabled. All have pine furniture tables and chairs which makes it a 'bright' pub.

There is a selection of six real ales, though only the guests are worth the wait/drive (Theakston's XB, Theakston's Best Bitter,BASS, John Smith's, Tetley, Ruddles County, Marstons Pedigree), the guests on this occassion were Bateman's Jollys and Exmoor Gold.

Food is home-cooked served lunch 12-2pm and evening 6-9.30pm. A traditional Sunday lunch is served 12-2pm. Occasional specials include free wine or starters & sweets - not weekends though. The food includes home made soups; Fisherman's Pot (fish, prawn, & mussels in a cheese sauce); Poacher's Fayre (venison, tomato & mushrooms in a rich port sauce); Pincer Pot (turkey, mushroom, pepper & onion in a white wine sauce); Mushroom Goulash (with Onion, Celery, Pepper & Walnut), Vegetable Curry and daily vegetarian specials.

There is also an outside beer/eating area for when the sun shines.

No accommodation here.

Comments

Unfortunately we have been informed that the Hammer has been turned into an eatery and no longer serves real ale.
