The Fox

Its location in landlocked Hertfordshire hasn’t stopped the Fox from building its reputation on a menu based largely on fresh fish and seafood.

The newly revamped boozer in Willian is owned by the Nye family, who own the White Horse in Brancaster Staithe, on the Norfolk coast. Seafood is delivered daily from Norfolk to Willian, a village near Letchworth, a half-mile drive from junction 9 of the A1(M).

The pub has been given the full gastropub makeover by the Nyes with bare flagstones, bare boards and an airy, atrium-style dining room. Keen to remain in with the locals, the Fox also draws drinkers for pints of Woodforde’s Wherry and rugby on the plasma TV. Bread is baked daily.

As this is a gastro pub the prices can be as high as a restaurant, but the quality is good and nothing is too much trouble for the staff.

Letchworth train station is about 1.4miles away.
