The Bell Inn

The Bell is a cosy old place with thick carpet in the lounge bar and a traditional public bar. The latter is bare floored with a darts board, TV and pool table. You can see through to the lounge bar but must go outside to gain entrance. It's a little narrow, but a friendly place to meet the locals. Newspapers are also stored here for a quick read on a quiet day. The lounge bar is split into two areas, a raised area has the restaurant and there are plenty of steps to get here. Food can be eaten anywhere in the pub, but this area is set aside especially for that reason. The food is traditional pub food at a good price and looks wholesome. The lounge bar has the entrance to the toilets which are basic but OK. It also leads out to the beer garden which is full of hanging baskets and plant covered trellis and is wonderful in the summer - like being in a jungle. Real ales on at the time were Gales HSB and Gales GB - both served wonderfully well. There is accommodation here, though not seen on this occasion. Access for the disabled is possible, though not to the beer garden. Again this pub is just down the hill from the railway station and near the convenience store on the roundabout. A good atmosphere local well worth a visit if in Whitchurch.
