The Coopers Arms
The Coopers Arms is a nice pub that also does conferences and weddings. It as its own trout lake next door.
During the English Civil War and under the leadership of Sir John Gell, the hall was used as a garrison for Cromwell's armies and it was said that Thomas Fairfax was known to have stayed the night. Hanging on the bar walls are the coats of arms of Charles 1st and Lord Huntingdon. These were taken from Ashby Castle as a trophy by the Roundheads.
The bar retains all the character of an English pub, but in the surroundings of one of the most beautiful buildings in the area. You can sit next to one of the large open fireplaces, the original 17th century well, relax at the bar or in one of the comfortable seating areas.
They now have their own beers exclusively brewed by Derby Brewing Company.
During the summer months, you can enjoy a drink at the outside bar – “Uncle Tom's Cabin”.
They serve food here, the restaurant is known for its excellence. There is a choice of menus, which include a carvery, a la carte selection, lunchtime planner menu and a wide selection of rolls, sandwiches & panini's.
