The Cape of Good Hope

True canalside pub, the water is a few feet from the front door, adjacent to Cape top lock on the Grand Union Canal.

Built just after the canal opened in 1800, it has given its name to the canal locks, the street and the surrounding district (which is undergoing regeneration and gentrification in 2007.

A painting in the rear lounge explains the story of its name. It has a traditional bar at the front, and an enlarged lounge at the rear. Both are low ceilings and full of canal related items like pales and bits of wood. In fact it is a lovely pub.

Good value meals (fish a speciality - not caught from the canal however!) are served 7 days a week lunch and evening, and all day Sunday.

Live music is regularly hosted. Very friendly welcome to locals and visitors.
