The Bell Inn

A real ale pub that serves Holdens, Bathams and some guest beers. Food is served here and all is home cooked.

This pub is off the beaten track and is not as easy to find as you'd think because it's still wartime round here and they have not put back the road signs!

However, once you find the pub, you will notice that it is very peaceful out here. The pub has a beer garden to the front on a patio area with car parks either side of the rather large pub for such a small village. There are three bars to choose from in this 18th century pub - the third at the rear is new and is being extended at present. This also acts as a function room and there was a wedding do on when we visited.

There are some steps into and around the pub, though there is disabled access available.

Of the three rooms the lounge is the cosiest with an inglenook and two seating areas. The dark wood furniture is complemented by the dark carpet and walls with local pictures and some Holden's memorabilia on them. The more basic bar is popular with ramblers and locals who frequent the pub.

The other area is the restaurant that serves good value meals, some of which are home cooked throughout the day - Monday to Saturday 12-3, 5-7pm (early bird specials), Monday to Thursday 5-9pm, Friday to Saturday 5-10pm, Sunday 12-4.

Well worth seeking out, especially in summer for its relaxed and quiet ambiance.
