Calcot Manor

Deep in the Cotswold Hills. One of the finest country house hotels in England, Calcot Manor lies three miles to the west of Tetbury. Set in stunning countryside, amid rolling fields and with a history spanning centuries, it retains all the character of a handsome farmhouse while providing the fine levels of service that has won many accolades.

Calcot has enjoyed a place in history since the time of William the Conqueror when the Hamlet of Calcot was first documented in the Doomsday Book of 1066.

As this is really a hotel, the bar is just one area to drink and eat, but it does serve some good ales.

The Gumstool Inn combines rustic cooking with a lively and relaxed pub atmosphere and you don't have to be staying here to enjoy it.

The Gumstool is the place to sample good real ale, many of which are brewed locally, while your meal is prepared. In the winter months you can relax with a game of dominoes and a hearty meal by the fire.

In summer, the terrace garden provides the perfect setting in which to while away a long leisurely dinner.

Food is superb and the choice ranges from steak to vegetarian. Prices are from £7.25 to £16, but portions are generous.

Accommodation is not cheap, we are talking over £140 here, but the whole experience is worth the treat.
