The Eagle  

Always a selection of real ales and a log fire at The Eagle. A traditional local near the town centre.

Sunday lunchtime there is a carvery, £5 single course, £6.95 for two.

Every week they have live music, 60's-80's style Fridays, jazz on every third Saturday in the month (modern and Trad).

Two skittle alleys and a large function room for hire. Guest ales tend to be Juwards Bitter and Butcombe Wilmotts.

Access for the disabled is possible.

No accommodation here.

The Beer was probably the best I had tasted in my stay in Taunton. The Otter, which I found to be served in several local pubs, was by far and away the best in The Eagle. I found out they have Otter as a resident beer and they also have a weekly changing guest beer. Fantastic place for a quiet pint. Try it...! The pub itself was very nice with the landlord and lady showing themselves to be highly knowledgeable and their staff being their equals in that department. The place is very clean and tidy, the real log fire in the main bar is superb. The bar was well stocked on everything. I found out that they have a very large pub sports (pool darts and skittles) following, some 25 teams Monday to Friday. WOW! The access for disabled patrons was very good with the new ramp making like easy for our wheeled friends. The toilets were a VERY high standard with the ladies smelling sweetly and the gents having various beer quotes written across the walls. I spent what seemed like ages reading all the quotes. The main bar is well situated and they have a separate function room bar. They don't do food or B&B. Shame, I would of moved in otherwise. (Phill - 2/9/04)
