The Arkwright Arms

Situated on the A632 mid-way between Chesterfield and Bolsover, close to the motorway.

Ample car parking and beer garden with children's play equipment.

A warm welcome from John Chadwick and Kathy Shorrock awaits the traveller at this traditional pub. The bar is a single central one which serves the lounge and the public bar. The public bar has no carpet and there is a pool table. Seating here is at round tables and stools with some chairs. The bar area here is smaller than the lounge part, but it's just as easy to get served.

The lounge - door to left at entrance - is carpeted and has three areas. The first to the left has padded bench seating and a mixture of tables and chairs. The fire is here too. The second area, is the lobby area which you actually walk into from the door. the bar starts here and you have to travel to the second bar overhang arch to see the real ale, although the hand pumps are dotted around the entire 'U' shape.

The third area is past the apex of the 'U' and up a single step. This is the restaurant area with tables laid out for eating - you can also access the public bar from here. The seating goes round and down another step or so to more tables at the rear of the pub.

There is a a wide selection of both keg and cask ales always available. They usually have Stones, Mansfield and Pedigree on, but this is supplemented by up to five guest ales from near and far. All were served well without sparkler, though had to ask for a top up on one occasion.

A restaurant serving a range of food is open daily, please check by 'phone before arriving as restaurant opening times vary throughout the year. The restaurant is open from 12 every day and they finish serving food at 8pm Monday to Saturday. It is advisable to book on Friday evening as sometimes it can be quite busy. If you just fancy a quick bite to eat then why not try one of the fresh snacks from rolls (beef, ham, chicken, cheese, corned beef or tuna). Or you could try a beef burger/cheese burger, rump steak cob, or go for a main meal like sirloin steak. Vegetarians will have to ask for a choice, but they say they are happy to make something up for you.

Guest beers on at the time were: Abbeydale Moonshine 4.3% and Sanctuary 4.2%, Maypole Mayfair 3.8% and Celebration 4.0%. Regular beer festivals are held here with up to 40 ales on. Email for the next one.
