The Wheatsheaf

This Wetherspoon looks much like any other. This used to be good music venue in Stoke, but is now a place to get cheap booze.

An innocuous looking place from the outside, you'd miss it if it wasn't for the banner outside proclaiming cheap beer and food.

Situated just down the road from the Spode factory.

No accommodation. Try Stoke Tourist Info (01782) 236004.

Now a Wetherspoon with no music (though they have kept it in their latest purchases) but better beer. Now there are booths where there used to be a stage, carpet where there used to be a living mass of goo. At least the toilets are now habitable.

I have almost fond memories of the 'sheaf! It is indeed now a Wetherspoons; as you might imagine the character's gone, but the beer is soooo much better.....

The Golden Cup, 65 Old Town Rd, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. 01782 212405. Open 12-11 not Tue, 12-10.30 Sun.
