The Traveller's Rest

The beer we had was described by the barman as nice refreshing bitter, but the colour of lager - for which we forgave it! It turned out just as he described it, it is a malty beer with a nutty after taste. Very refreshing and a pleasant lunch time tipple!

The pub was very clean and tidy, spacious, with plenty of room at the bar to stand, if one so wished, but with a number of table for diners. Three sofas, with throwovers added to the atmosphere, which isd very relaxed and comfortable. Access is a bit unusual and a bit narrow but this leads into a surprisingly large bar, well, two bars actually, the main bar being round the corner from the bar facing on entering. Disabled customers should not be put off by the entrance! Ladies and Gents toilets are situated inside the entrance on the way to the bars, disabled access could be difficult, though probably not impossible.

We had sandwiches, which were excellent and very good value at £2.50 for a turkey on brown and £2.75 (I think) for prawn/mayonnaise on brown. They were well presented and came with salad and crisps, and the usual assortment of condiments in sachets, knives and forks. The staff (could well be the landlords) are very friendly and made us feel welcomed.

No food Mondays and Tuesdays; Wednesday - Friday 12.00 to 3.00pm, 7.00pm to 10.00. Saturday and Sundays, similar to Wed/Fri, but closing earlier.

The car park runs parallel to the main road and part of it is a bit awkward to access, being off the road, if the main park is occupied. The gents toilet wasn't quite as good as the bar would lead you to expect, though it did provide full washing facilities and towel, which was a welcomed alternative to the electric hand drier. These remarks should be taken as comments, rather than complaints.
