Prestoungrange Gothenburg  

This brewpub is not new on the scene, just reinvigorated by new owners. Built in 1908 as a pub without the need to sell beer. The idea was that if the landlord wasn't incentivised to sell alcohol, people would drink sensibly, not to excess. This principle still exists and the profits over 5% are given to the benefit of the community. The pub itself is an excellent example of the arts - the ceiling mural in the main bar. You have to look up to get the full effect, but it is worth it. The huge central bar serves all areas of the pub and though it can make a pub cavernous, it still gives the Presto a light feel. There is even a walk-in fireplace where you can sit to keep extra warm in winter. All tastefully decorated this pub is a real gem. It serves beers only from its own brewery which is working at capacity. The best bit is that you can join in and get a share of the 100 gallon brew per week. That's right, take home was never so enjoyable. Food is also served here all week 12-8.30pm, with Friday and Saturday food extended until 9pm. It's not gastro food, but it is hearty and filling and good value. They cater for parties of up to 100. Make the trip 10 miles East of Edinburgh, you wont regret it.
