Kirklands Hotel  

This is a large three star hotel tied to the real ale brewer 'Old Mill'. Four Old Mill beers are always on handpump at any one time. Seasonal beers are April - October. The bar area is spacious and comfortable with plenty of seating for diners. Food is plentiful and there is a wide choice, though only a single vegetarian option. Prices start from £5.75 upwards. Accommodation is clean and of high standard with TV, tea making facilities, central heating and en-suite (from £65), family rooms available, though children are not encouraged in the bar after 9pm. Easy to find on the A61 between Wakefield and Leeds. Exit off junction 41 or 40 of the M1. The staff are friendly and attentive, but expect a strange look if you like you ale the way it's poured at festivals (without a head). Accommodation here.

As a local person and a former member of staff I agree that the Kirklands hotel sold great Sunday lunches and did keep VERY GOOD REAL ALE when the review was written back in January - However since then Old Mill Brewery have cut their nose off to spite their face!! Due to GREED the land lord in question at the time has now UNFORTUNATELY vacated the premises and now the Food and Beer is no longer very good and the pub is no where as busy so when it comes to MUCH lower beer sales Old Mill Brewery will hopefully (BUT PROBABLY NOT) eventually learn to treat their GOOD TENANTS with the respect they deserve! On a recent visit to the Kirklands Hotel with my children, I was bitterly disappointed that the landlord was using obscene language in a public bar. The phase leading by example does spring to mind. In fact the landlord would be well advised to conduct himself in the same manner as some of his younger employees did. Who was very helpful and well mannered. Yours, a very disappointed customer.
