Malt Shovel Tavern

This is the best pub in Northampton set in a ring road. There is no car park and the only one that's free is the Morrison's.

The pub itself is very welcoming and friendly. You can enter from the front or the rear, but the bar is at the front to the right of entrance. Here you will find up to 10 handpumps serving well-kept beer from the local brewers and of course from the pub's own brewery. If you are interested then they serve a number of continental (Belgian) beers, two on draught and up to 15 in bottles. If that doesn't grab you then they do English country wines.

Seating is at a mixture of tables with chairs and stools. There is a reasonable amount of seating although it can get busy in the evenings.

They serve food here, but only at lunchtimes. It is an interesting mixture of traditional and exotic food. Prices are reasonable and the quality is good. Service is good from the staff.

For the summer there are picnic tables out back, though no grass.

Live music Wednesdays.

Not too far from the motorway if you are passing, just head straight into the town.

Well worth a stop.
