Once housing a blacksmith's an integral part of any 17th-century coaching inn, The Ancient Mariner in Nether Stowey has a long and distinguished history of offering comfort and great food and drink to weary travellers. This history is proudly upheld today by Richard and Sharon Wright and their friendly, attentive staff, who offer all their guests genuine hospitality. The interior of this excellent Free House is cosy and welcoming.

The menu board include steaks, fish and seafood dishes, as well as traditional favourites. The inn has a restaurant which is open most lunchtimes and evenings, afternoon cream teas are available by prior arrangement. There are always four real ales on tap, including Courage Directors and Courage Best as well as two changing guest ales. Guests can also choose from draught lagers and ciders. Spirits, wines, soft drinks, teas and coffees complete the list of beverages available. Popular with locals and visitors alike, this fine pub is well worth a visit for its great food, well-kept ales and convivial atmosphere.

There is an extensive lunchtime menu plus additional evening menu (served from 6pm) including home cooked traditional favourites, fish and local steak. Other facilities include: Car parking, large beer garden; children welcome; dogs welcome; 90 ft outside play area; darts, fruit and quiz machine.
