Ye Olde Red Lion Hotel

A traditional 400 year old real ale house reflecting the olde world character and history of Market Bosworth - yes, this is the place where the battle between Henry Tudor and King Richard III was fought.

The pub boasts a wide range of excellent ales to be quaffed in a warm and friendly atmosphere. On at the time of visit were Burton Bridge Bitter, Cameron's Strongarm, Marston's Pedigree, Greene King Abbot and Taylor's Landlord. There was also a guest ale on.

The pub is right on a dangerous corner in the 'village' as you can see from the picture. There is a car park, but it is round the bend behind the pub.

Access is via the front door or through the car park into the lounge bar. Although you can enter into the seating area, the truth is that this is a single bar/room pub. Seating is arranged around the outer edge and is in alcove type large tables - which can make couples feel a little unwelcome, though there is some seating for them elsewhere. There are chairs, but also some padded bench seating.

The décor is all dark wood and beams everywhere, with the walls covered with battle and local memorabilia and the carpet is dark also. There is a double sided open fireplace near one end of the bar which provides enough heat in winter.

At the right end of the bar as you face it and round the corner, is more bar like seating with steps to the basic toilets.

Food is served here (Mon-Wed 12-2 & 6-8.30; Thu/Fri 12-2, 6-9, Sat 12-9pm, Sun 12-3.30pm. The menu provides much choice from home-cooked meals to 'traditional roasts, though not too much for vegetarians. Prices are keen, but the food is good.

The Red Lion has a quiz night every first Sunday of the month and supplements this with live jazz every first and third Thursday of the month.

En suite accommodation (including four posters), beer garden and large car park are added amenities.

Open from 10am Wednesday and Saturday.
