The Castle

Within walking distance of the centre of Macclesfield and only 5 minutes from the railway station. A trip back in time awaits you as you walk down the uneven cobbled street to this 18th century pub. Local knowledge has it that it was a dwelling first and then a pub. The interior is also right out of the museum and has not changed in many moons, which is probably why it's on the national inventory of CAMRA. Once you enter there is a large room to your left with fixed seating and a nice ceiling. Note also the bell pushes and the fact that it was a smoke room. The other three rooms to the right are smaller and a corridor screen throws light everywhere. One room is covered with brasses and has bench and fabric seating. All in all a very pleasant pub to visit. Shame there isn't a guest ale policy to attract more punters. Food at lunchtimes is only bar snacks.
