The Willoughby Arms
A large country pub with a beer garden and superb views.
The Willoughby Arms is opposite the old station, but alas no trains stop here now and the line is the fast GNER line north.
A large car park greets you as you turn off the road and you choose between entrances. To the side is a large beer garden (see picture) where you can sit and enjoy the country air on a good day. This is also where they hold their beer festivals with a tent.
Food is available lunch and evenings including Wednesdays. Fayre is traditional and wholesome and reasonably priced. On Sunday's only roasts are available, though as yet there is no vegetarian choice.
The Willoughby Arms now has six real ales on regularly, all from micros and regionals. The permanent beers are Batemans XB and Lord Ancaster (brewed exclusively for them by Newby Wyke). They have now installed the "Eventemp" system which helps guarantee that the ales are consistently served at the perfect temperature. All ales are served in lined glasses.
Friday and Saturday are live music nights in the cellar bar. Check out the regular special events like the monthly quiz, the golf society, the theme nights and beer/music festivals. Music nights are held in the cellar bar or in the garden (summer).

Accommodation available here. Single from: £40; Double from: £55.
Comments
The winter house beer Lord Willoughby has been replace by Lord Ancaster - a golden beer of 4.0% ABV brewed again by Newby Wyke Brewery of Grantham. The Grainstore pump has been replaced with another guest beer pump - we have three other beers on all the time (5 in total). The Newby Wyke brewery has been forced to move and is no longer behind the pub.
Accommodation is now available with a family and double room en-suite, and a single room with private shower/wc. Plans have just been submitted for work on derelict out buildings which will add a further 6 en-suite rooms plus a micro-brewery.
March 2001 - 3 en-suite rooms are now fully up and running - we now have 6 handpumps for real ales with four ever changing guest beers - all from micro breweries - The building work on the new brewery is well under way and the award winning Newby Wyke Brewery from Grantham should be moving in by the end of April - future plans include an additional 6 bedrooms.
A recent (May 2001) Real ale and a Bed visit found the Willoughby Arms to be everything it should be.
