The Sair Inn  

The Sair Inn, Linthwaite, Huddersfield dates back to 1700. It is a cosy, welcoming pub with an open fire in each of its four rooms. It is renown throughout Yorkshire for its home-brewed ales (Linfit Brewery) and has been voted National Pub of the Year by CAMRA in its time.

Television is no stranger to this incredible pub - it appeared as the Blue Boar in Wokenwell. It has an incredibly homely atmosphere, added to by the size of the rooms - no impersonal, large box shaped room that is found in your average town centre pub. The wooden and flagged floors, the roaring fires and the friendliness of your fellow drinkers make this a pub that you will want to come back to time and time again. The hosts are Ron Crabtree and Hilary Cooper. They are extremely welcoming and friendly - absolutely no pretensions at all.

The Sair was a 19th Century brew pub and the brewing was recommenced in 1982 (as the Linfit Brewery). New equipment has increased capacity and now many impressive ales are produced for the pub and outlets further afield. Tours can be arranged in advance for those of you who are fascinated in learning about the methods of brewing.

The beers include Linthwaite Mild, Bitter, Enochs Hammer (a cracking pint at approx 8.6%) and English Guineas Stout. The pub is generally viewed as being a typical English pub - so much so that Japanese businessmen came to the Sair to take photos so that they could reproduce the whole pub over in Japan!

The Sair is an amazing pub. If, like me, you prefer to sit in a corner with a pint and talk to your companions, then The Sair is for you. No town centre pub can compare to this wonderful jewel in the West Yorkshire countryside. You can keep your town centre 'youth clubs' and I'll have a proper grown-up pub where I can have a pint of Scrumpy and a pickled egg!!!
