This pub is actually in the main buildings of Huddersfield railway station, occupying most of the west end. There are entrances from Platform 1 and from St Georges Square. The station buildings are regarded as the best in Britain. They are grade 1 listed. When they took the premises over, they had been largely derelict for a great many years. HoS carried out a big renovation project and opened in March 1996. This is a large, 4-roomed pub, with the rooms in ?quarters? around a central servery area. Each room has its own character and its own locals. The Buffet acts as the main station buffet. It is a no-smoking and quiet room. This is the main railway artefact ?museum? room. The Family Room is red! It has more railway artefacts on display and plenty of comfortable benches. The Lounge is the room live music takes place in. It is also where most of the advertising enamels are displayed. The Bar is a wood-floored room which houses a display of antique advertising posters and a neon sign collection, as well as art exhibitions. The pub is very popular with students. The pub has bags of atmosphere and good ales to boot. They have an excellent reputation for food and serve an awful lot of it. They have an extensive standard menu but with many daily specials. Much of the food served is locally-sourced, and cooked using fresh produce rather than frozen or chilled. Sunday dinners are popular. They open for station buffet food and drink from 8.30am but the full meals service is available Mon-Fri 11.30am-9.30pm, Sat 11.30am?5pm, Sun 12?4.30pm. You can also take home beer form here and there is a discount too.
