The Stocks Inn  

The Stocks gets its name from the old village stocks that were situated just
outside. It used to be a Devinish pub back in the day and was a frequent haunt for the council workers just up the road. It was also a good place to come if you were having a secret tryst.

These days it is better known for its food and its proximity to the countryside. Very much a country pub even though it is only a few minutes from the centre of Wimborne.

Inside the pub is has a number of distinct areas mainly set out for food, but there are places to sit if you are just interested in a drink. The small bar area is split by a pillar and can be found towards the front of the pub.

The beers on here tend to be from the majors, but are served well.

Food is served here Monday to Thursday 12-2pm; Friday and Saturday 12-2.30pm; Monday to Saturday 6-9pm; Sunday 12-8pm. Food tends to be pricey for what it is, but this is the wealthy end of Wimborne. As such this is predominantly a food led pub, it is just a pity there is very little selection for vegetarians, though there is some. Worse than that, is the cost for vegetarian food is similar to that for meat eaters, yet the amount served up to vegetarians is paltry by comparison. On a number of visits it seemed as though they assumed vegetarians were small appetite eaters. Although they do serve a smaller portion for smaller appetites, we checked and it was not on the occasions when we were there.

For the summer there is a beer garden out front where you can watch the sparse traffic go by and the winter has its own pleasures by the fire inside.

Nice pub, shame about the vegetarian meals.
