Watership Down Inn

Taking its name from Richard Adams' enchanting tale of rabbits, this homely 19th-century free house inn is situated close to the real Watership Down (on B3400 between Basingstoke & Andover), an area popular with walkers. The pub now has a large conservatory on the front, but still looks much like a large home. Inside there is a wonderful floor and original materials make up the furniture and bar at the rear of the pub. Excellent real ales are on sale and there is always a good selection, usually Archers Best, Brakspear Bitter, Ringwood, Bateman XB, plus other guest ales. Food is also served here seven days a week, with a good selection of basket meals and hot platters including Lincolnshire sausages, chilli, fish pie, and decent curries. Prices are keen and the quality good. No accommodation here but try: the Bell Inn in Whitchurch just down the road.. There is a wonderful real fire for winter and a decent beer garden set away from the road for summer. Dogs welcome; children welcome; children's play area.?There are steps up to the pub and so not good for disabled access, though this may well change in the future. Well worth the stop, enjoy the relaxed atmosphere.
