String of Horses  

This delightful little whitewashed country pub is a free house and is situated down the end of a network of narrow lanes. In the midst of a tiny village with countryside all around, this building dates back to the 17th century.

This is mirrored inside where you can find big stone fireplaces you can stand in, plenty of oak beams and wooden benches to sit on. This gives it a real character and a relaxing atmosphere.

The pub has several rooms all interconnected, which can be good for secret meetings as they are lit low. There is also a profusion of brass and copper, but we don't talk about that.

Beers on at the time were Jennings Cumberland Ale, Jennings Mild, and Theakstons Best.

Food is served 12-2 & 7-9.30. The food draws people from all around and caters for all tastes. For example: Curry, Oyster pie, pork calypso. there are specials as well. For there is also a restaurant for those who prefer the atmosphere and this is open for the same times as bar food.

Accommodation is available in sumptuously furnished rooms and they have a four-poster bed! Prices are between £68-£82 for a single and £70-£100 for a double, but well worth the cost. You will need to check for out of season opening times.
