The Sawrey Hotel

Not far from the ferry on the western side of Windermere lake. The hotel is set just off the road on a bend, so don't drive quickly.

Looking like something from the Victorian era outside, you wont be disappointed with the inside either. Very much a relaxed and time warp feel does not detract, but add to its appeal. You could imagine royalty stopping off here and probably relatives of Beatrix Potter who lived up the road at Near Sawrey.

You enter via the hotel entrance and the bar is past the real fire straight ahead. The bar has the feel of a home-made bar and is trapped in the last century, again adding to its charm. There are a couple of hand pumps here serving Black Sheep Bitter and Theakstons with a Jennings beer usually on. This bar has a settle and some comfy chairs round the fire, seating can also be found to the right of the bar next to the restaurant entrance.

The second bar is in an old stable block, and is very rustic with horse paraphernalia - seating is made from old stalls. Both have log fires for winter warmth.

There is a restaurant that serves quality food in big helpings, though bar food is also available 11.30 - 2.30pm each day for a reasonable price. Choice is limited to traditional pub grub, but still has a good feel to it. Prices are fair and the staff are attentive and pleasant.

Outside is a beer garden with seats on the lawn. Walkers are welcome as are children and dogs.

Accommodation is available and is comfortable and well equipped.
