Leslie's Bar

Leslies Bar was built in 1896 by renowned brewers' architect Peter Lyle Henderson Henderson's pubs include The Abbotsford, The Central Bar, The Mitre and Deacon Brodie's. These pubs were transformed into examples of late Victorian and Edwardian beauty.

The original licensee of the premises was a Mr Donald Campbell. In 1902 a spirit dealer named John Leslie became licensee. As was common at the time the premises carried a combination of Licensee name and street name & number.

The owners Great Grandfather was Duncan Stewart, the nephew of D & J McCallum the whisky blenders known for their Perfection brand which continued to be sold in Leslie's until the late 1980's. Leslie's today continues to be family owned one hundred years and four generations later, through D. M. Stewart Ltd.

The bar is divided in two by a snob screen complete with hatches which allowed customers to order their drinks without being recognized from the public bar. The mahogany central bar section complete with original Bryson clock remains almost entirely unaltered.

Manager Gavin Blake takes great pride in the selection of over 60 Whiskies which include Cask Bottling?s and some Rare Expressions. There cannot be a finer traditional Scottish bar to partake in 'the water of life' than Leslies.

Leslies is 'listed' and included in CAMRA's register of heritage pubs. In 2002 the bar was named the 'CAMRA Edinburgh Bar Of The Year'. We pride ourselves in providing well kept ales, fine wines & spirits; all served in a friendly and comfortable environment.

Complete with it's loyal clientele, generations of whom have given the bar its identity, Leslie's Bar continues today as one of Scotland's finest licensed premises.
