The Red Lion  

Situated quite near the reservoir off Norton Lane not far from Wythall, The Lakes and Earlswood stations and just past the cricket ground.

This pub is a dual gable affair with a Georgian exterior (all beams and black and white) right on the fork of the road. It looks very impressive from the outside and there is a large car park opposite. Just behind the car park is the Stratford and Avon canal and you can tie-up and stop for a beer.

Inside there are 'high' ceilings that go on forever. The Red Lion (open all day) is split up into many smaller rooms, each with its own character. All have traditional sturdy wooden tables and chairs, some have settles around the edges. The back room, where the real fire keeps you warm in winter, is no smoking. Here are the larger tables to seat up to 10. The ceiling is even higher here and reminds one of a medieval banqueting hall with hanging chandeliers.

The real ales are usually Landlord and Tiger, though it does do a rotating guest beer, this time Highgate Dark, a scrumptious mild.

The food (served all day) is traditional pub fayre, steaks (not on the bone), etc., and for the vegetarian mushroom, potato and cranberry sauce pasty crown all with vegetables Menu. The service was exemplary both for food and drinks.

No loud music, access is also good for the disabled, though people blocking pathways is a problem anywhere.
