The Golden Cross

A very attractive medieval 'black and white' beamed building in the heart of Coventry. Set on a cobbled street by the old cathedral, built in 1583 on the site of the former Coventry mint, but it only became a pub in 1661.

They serve one regular ale, named for the pub, plus three guest ales. A real cider is available.

Inside there is a lounge downstairs where the bar is. This is quite bijou with flagged floors and plenty of wood beams around. Food is a big part of the pub and this is more formally served upstairs, though you can still eat downstairs if there is room. There are choices here for Vegetarians and vegans. A lunchtime menu 12-3 Monday to Friday differs from the fuller evening selection.

Live music here every Saturday from 9pm and there is an open mic night on Tuesdays from 8pm. Given the low ceilings, it can get loud at these times.

There is a pub garden at the rear for summer.
