Castle Inn

This is a free house that has been extended. From the car park (picture) it looks rather boring and plain, but from
the road it looks much better and shows its old roots. Once inside you are in for a surprise. The decor is all stripped wood and beams with a stone flag floor. The ceilings are low which provides a very cosy atmosphere and there are many nooks and crannies to sit in. Some window seats are available, but can be draughty in winter. These seats have benches in the windows with padding. The many different areas/rooms all have a similar decor, but there is a real fire in one area. The bar is a long 'J' shape so you should get served easily. The beers on at the time were the staples from Grainstore and Taylor. Both were well served without sparkler, there was no guest on at the time. Food is served daily here and is more gastro pub than traditional. All meals were well served and cooked, though portions could have been bigger. Prices ranged from ?5 to ?13. For those who like a smoke free environment to eat there is a no smoking area. Access for the disabled is
also good as the avenues to the bar and seating are wide. Toilets are clean and tidy and the ladies is better than the gents. The pub is close to Rockingham Castle and is opposite the old Rockingham railway station. The latter has now been turned into the "Castle Sleeper" with rooms from ?49.50. All were clean and tidy rather like a Travelodge. Well worth a stop off if you are in the area.
