The Abbey Inn

This is a pretty pub from the front - not so nice from the road. It is set right by the river Dart and you can sit outside and watch the river run by with a pint and some food. The inside of the pub is quite old fashioned and seems to come out the 1940's set of An Inspector Calls. This makes it a very cosy place to be, especially in winter. The dark wood bar is to your right on entrance and has an overhang. here you will find up to three beers on from St Austell. There are stools at the bar for the locals and a mixture of comfortable seating for everyone else, including high backed chairs and bench seating. There is a second room further on, but that is set out for food and is a panelled room with plates on the walls and pictures of the local area. For the winter there is a through and through fireplace that heats both rooms it also has seating on it, but I suspect it will be too hot to sit there. For the summer there are picnic benches outside by the river. food is served here both lunch and evenings. Food is homemade and comes to order. It is wholesome and filling and there are vegetarian choices too. There is also accommodation here - 8 rooms, all en-suite. Close to the South Devon Railway and the Abbey of course. Well worth a stop off if in the area. Access for the disabled is possible, but there are no facilities.
