The Howcroft`

Well known for being the beer centre of Bolton and the fact they run Britain's largest independent beer festival strengthens the claim. Real ales include Landlord, Walkers Bitter and Mild and two regular guests - normally one of them being a beer from Bank Top brewery, which lives next door. It has to be said that the beer does travel remarkably well. The pub is split into four areas with a central bar. The back room is used for functions; the bar area has a television; the snug has a comfortable seating area with real log fire for the winter months and the conservatory overlooks the bowling green. The bowling green is open to all but on occasions used by local clubs. The garden has improved and it is arguably the nicest to sit for miles. Lunchtime food is good value - Sausage baguette and chips should see you through to teatime. Minus points are : the newspapers sadly only consist of the Daily Telegraph and Bolton Evening News and they do not sell Walkers Cheese and Onion crisps. However they do not have any penguins though I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of Jen!! Regular beer festivals are held here. (A. Hazeldine)
