The Crown

This 18th century pub is set back off the road on a slope. A raised front garden has picnic tables on it. You can enter the pub from near the front or halfway down. There is a single bar at the front of the pub which is long and has a second smaller room off it. The bar is an inverted 'L' shape and is made of rough cut stone, rather like a stone wall. You will usually find two guest ales on, this time Cottage Wheeltapper and Abbeydale Brimstone. Both were served well with full measure. Seating is at dark wood tables and chairs and there is a fixed bow-shaped window seat which faces the bar at the other end of the room. This pub was saved from de-listing a few years back and has become a welcoming place to go of an evening. There is extra seating available in the restaurant, but this is a way from the bar up by the toilets. Acces for the disabled is possible with ramps in strategic places.

Food is only served here at certain times - Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday lunchtime. The menu is traditional and filling with Sunday lunches a particular favourite.

A real fire warms in the winter. Look out for the pub dog. On the Melton-Leicester bus route.
