George and Dragon

I cant think of a nicer place to be come rain or shine than in Dent. It's such a picturesque place set in a beautiful river dale that sometimes floods around it. Often in winter the local football team has to wear wellington's to play.

The pub, near the post office, looks just like a country estate pub, lots of wood panels and furniture of dark wood. Not a lot on the walls though which is a refreshing change. You enter via a corridor from the cobbled street out front. Here you can choose which bar you want to enter - lounge or bar.

There is one bar that serves both and you can see through. The lounge is isolated from the toilets and the pool table/TV however. The bar has bare local stone floors and wooden tables chairs and a real fire. Walls are bare again and there are partitions between tables. No music here either.

Beers are from the Dent brewery (which owns the George and Dragon) across the street at the Sun Inn. Beers on at the time were Aviator, Bitter and Ramsbottom, all served well and very tasty.

Food is basic, burgers, salads, chicken in a basket and children's portions. However, it is both filling, tasty and cheap for a tourist area.

This is a picture postcard place with a sunset charm. If you like 'Last of the Summer Wine' come to where it should have been set. Cobbled streets and white washed buildings abound. Busy as hell in the summer, but very quiet during the week in the winter.

Not good for the disabled with a big step up into the pub. B&B (9 rooms). Plenty of walks round about.
