This is a beautifully situated pub in South
Yorkshire. It is a stones throw from the Wortley Hall conference centre set in idyllic
grounds open to the public. The pub used to brew its own beer (Earls), but the licensee
went bust in June 1996 and the beer stopped brewing. There is now a more permanent
licensee and they have started taking guest ales again. It has also started doing food and
accommodation again. The beers on a recent visit were Taylor's Landlord, Taylors
Dark Mild and Barnsley Bitter, normally 6 regular ales. The pub is very much an estate pub
with wood panelled walls and fireplaces and nooks and crannies., There are a number of
rooms to sit in which have distinct identities and this all adds to the ambience.
| Additional Notes: |
The pub now
serves an excellent range of ales from Timothy Taylor's to John smiths and
accommodation is now available. (Nigel Cowley, 28/2/00) |
