This is the premier real ale pub in Worcester and has won the prestigious local CAMRA pub of the year competition a number of times. It's just a short stroll from Foregate Street station and very near the annual beer fetival held at the racecourse. The pub itself is grade II listed Georgian town house that has depth rather than breadth. You enter from the front and the bar is down the left wall halfway down. There are seven hand pumps all in working order with a different beer on. All are well kept and served - full pints here. There is a selection of ciders too. The decor is dark stripped wooden floors and dark furniture, the walls are covered with pump clips and photos - including a large one of the landlord! Some bench seating is available and there is a beer garden, but it's really a yard. Food is served here at lunchtimes only (Monday-Saturday 12-2.30 [3 Sat]) - check out the chalkboard for choices (always something for vegetarians). Some interesting choices are offered and suit a wide range of tastes. Access for the disabled is possible, though space is limited. No accommodation here. Well worth a stop.
A quiet family pub offering cask ales and the best in pub grub from bar snacks to a full a la carte evening menu. Situated less than 5 minutes walk from both the Cathedral and the river Severn with its delightful riverside walks. They have very recently revamped the beer garden to include a fenced grassed area where kids can safely play with soft toys allowing Mum and Dad to have a peaceful drink or meal whilst being able to keep a watchful eye on the youngsters. They also do afternoon birthday parties for kids! They are very proud of the cask ales they serve. The beers were presented in the best possible condition and regularly change. Food is served here from 12-3 and 6-8.30pm in the non-smoking restaurant. Booking is advisable, but not essential. Also on Saturday evenings (weather permitting) they have a barbecue from 6pm until the food runs out. Most Sundays there is a traditional Sunday roast.
