A pub
which doubles as the Holden's brewery tap. Set up in the 1920's as a brew pub, it has
grown for four generations and now owns 21 pubs in the Dudley area, supplying around 30
other free trade establishments. This pub - open all day, but not on Sundays - is a
friendly locals pub just off a main route home from work. The decor has been
refurbished of late, though still retains elements of the original. At time of visit it had three Holden's beers on:- Mild, Special and
Bitter. Prices were keen and not heavy on the pocket. Food is served both lunchtimes and
evening (not on Sunday evenings) and is reasonably priced
and comes in good sized portions. It is straight forward, no nonsense pub
grub. However, the smoky atmosphere doesn't always make eating
a pleasant experience. In the summer they hold frequent barbecues in the conservatory on
Fridays to Sundays (though not three days long). In winter there is a real fire
to warm you in winter. A room for darts
and pool is just off the main bar. The toilets are clean
and tidy. The bar staff are always friendly and ready to help. There is disabled access, though this is of a limited kind as the
pub is narrow behind the main door. For those of you who cant be without a pint of
Holden's, there is a brewery shop open 10.30-2, 4-10 (all day Saturday). Tours by
arrangement as the brewery is next door. There is no accommodation available here.

| Additional Notes: |
Quality beer at reasonable
prices. Recommend Special and Golden Glow. :-). The pub has been revamped
recently and is a friendly locals pub. There is a darts board and a pool
room just off the main bar. There is a real fireplace and the toilets are
clean and tidy. The bar staff are always friendly and ready to help. The
food is in good proportions and at very reasonable prices. It is straight
forward, no nonsense pub grub. Food served lunchtimes and evenings but not
on Sunday evenings. Best: The Quality of the Beer at reasonable prices.
Families welcome. (Joe and Ian Boden) |
