The Chindit looks small
from the
outside, rather like a traditional corner pub, but is deceptively large
inside and
has a large concreted yard beer garden out back where they hold beer
festivals. They also host popular acoustic evenings. However, for those of you
not interested in music, there is a large screen TV and a pool table. No food is
served here, but there is plenty of atmosphere (though as a locals pub they do
tend to stare when you first walk in. At least you don't have to ask for the
sparkler to be taken off as they don't use them). The beers on at the time were
from Greene King, Weltons Old Cocky, Ash Vine High Voltage. Well worth a trip
out of town if you are in Wolverhampton. Not far from a park. Alas no
accommodation here but see the accommodation listed on the reviews below. No
good for the disabled as there are steps everywhere.

On the corner of Stafford Street,
the Hogshead is 5 minutes from the railway station and near the Civic hall and
bus station. Done out in the same decor as the rest of the chain it is hard to
tell where you are once inside, but there are plenty of nooks and crannies to
sit in and a no smoking area by the front double doors. Access for the disabled
is OK and there is 20p a pint off for CAMRA members who remember to bring their
cards with them. Guest ales are usually from the more well known breweries, but
a gem can be found here occasionally, some served by gravity. Food is served
most of the day and although prices are reasonable, the quantity didn't satisfy
this appetite. Wolverhampton pub of the year in 2000 its well worth a visit if
in the newest city. No accommodation here but see other listings fro details.

Situated in the shadow of the Goodyear plant, though not for much longer
as Goodyear pulls out of Wolverhampton. This is a large two-roomed pub serving
good home cooked food. Real ales tend to be from the larger brewers, but don't
be put off by the Ansells and Tetleys available. Food is good and families are
welcome and children are catered for with a large outdoor play area. No direct
access via the A449. Accommodation available here.

Another typical Wetherspoon
pub. Large open-plan single room with a central U-shaped bar. The right side
has cubicles
and books on wooden shelves. The left is more open and is the entrance to the toilets -
downstairs (though there is a disabled toilet on ground level). Good access from the
street in this former shop for the disabled and wide spaces inside. As usual there are
local historical pictures of Wolves on the walls. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly
and it seems to be always humming while not being busy. Unusually for a Wetherspoon there
is a low ceiling and so you get a feeling of tunnel vision with space compressed sideways
rather than upwards (stand at the door and try it). Food is served all day until 10pm and
the menu changes once a year so the good fayre has a variety. Good prices too. A no
smoking area is available for people who breath air. Wolves station is just down the road
- 2 mins, as is the bus station - 1 min. A naff selection of usual permanent beers but
the guests are great. On at the time were Backdykes Malcom's Golden Vale and Slaters
HiDuck. No accommodation here but try:
Britannia
Hotel across the road (01902) 429922. It is expensive though - £65 per room (no
breakfast!) & £7.95 per person for 'brekkie'. (Ed. - Other Hotels in town
are the Wulfrun Hotel, Pipers Row (though it seems to be used as a DSS hostel too -
£36
per double room - no en-suite) also the Fox Hotel, 118 School Street (by the market - its
probably an OK place to stay if you are out of your skull) at £44 room only -
£39 per
night weekends (min 2 nights stay).

One of the chain pubs in the heart of
Wolverhampton, not far from the bus and rail stations and the Moon Under Water. The inside
is the same as all the rest of the chain - all wooden floors and dark stained wood
furniture of varying sizes and combinations. There are one or two distinct areas to drink
in though the best place is at the back of the pub near the toilets. This room has two
tables, one large six seater with a bench and chairs and a smaller two seater. The walls
of this small-ish square room are decked out in pictures of Wolverhampton and a couple of
glass cases of objects including Tap and Spile T-shirts for sale. The other rooms are more
open, though there is a small space away from the bar to the right of the photo above. The
single bar is 'L' shaped and has a low overhang making it difficult to see the bar staff
at the far end. Usually there are about 6 different real ales on, not all are unusual, but
it's well worth the short walk from town. All real ales are served with the sparkler and
large tight head is usual round here. Ask for your ale without and be rewarded with a full
pint. Food is served here lunch and evening until 9pm. Service at lunchtime has been
reported as slow at times, so get there early. All food is well presented, though portions
could do with a foot pump to blow them up in size. Access for the disabled is possible,
though space is at a premium here. A real fireplace is visible, but it's never been lit
before. Quiz nights Tuesday and most of the pub joins in. Also there is a huge drop down
screen that shows football. No accommodation here but try: The
Wheatsheaf Inn, Market Street, Wolverhampton, WV1 3AE. (01902) 424446. Single
£18, double/Twin £33 per room, Family Room £45. No beer garden. Close to tram terminus.
