This is a Ringwood beer
house in which you can usually find at least four of their beers at any one time. It has
been local CAMRA pub of the year in 1996 & 1998. Inside is a little dark, but this is
really a drinkers pub, not a family one. There are lots of dark wood panels and seats are
benches along one wall with tables, though there are tables and stools in the rest of the
space. The bar is small one at the rear of the pub to the left. Again, dark wood and the
beers are on a list on the wall. Beers on at the time were: Ringwood Best, True Glory,
Fortyniner and Old Thumper, plus a guest Rebellion Mutiny and guest ciders. Food is only
served at lunchtimes and is basic but cheap. Don't expect very much for vegetarians other
than cheese and beans. A welcoming atmosphere makes for a pleasant experience at the
Porterhouse. If you like malt whisky then you are in for a treat too. A quiet pub with no
music. Access for the disabled is possible, though not the toilets. No accommodation
here.
