The Cock Hotel (Holyhead Road, Wellington, Shropshire) (01952) 244954. eMail, Website. This is an 18th century coaching inn on a crossroads just outside Telford. It serves up to six real ales (Ushers, Everads, Hobsons, Archers, Hop Back, Conniston). Wood panells abound as does a friendly atmosphere and a no smoking lounge. Food is traditional pub fayre and finish at 8pm so get there early. There is accommodation here, though not seen on this visit. A children's play area and beer garden. Not far from the station. A meeting room for groups is also available, with buffet service. How to get there (with thanks to Telford CAMRA): By Train : Walk out of entrance across bottom of cul-de-sac and walk up steep steps on opposite side of road. At top of steps turn left and follow The Parade road past car park on left, with bus station at end, on right. (If desired, take bus for Oakengates or Telford Town Centre from here. 2 to 3 minute journey, depending on traffic conditions. May be quicker to walk at peak hours. Should cost less than a pound). At end of The Parade, cross road and walk left over railway bridge for 100 metres. Take next right into King Street and walk for 6-7 minutes, walking over another railway bridge and pass New College on left hand side near end of road. At end of road, turn left into Mill Bank. Walk for 2-3 minutes, crossing at pedestrian crossing, Wrekin Tap is in the Cock Hotel on the right hand side at the very end of the road.
