An old converted farmhouse in an isolated position with a good reputation for
food and ale. There are usually six real ales on: Greene King IPA, Abbot Ale, Marston Pedigree,
Ruddles Best Bitter and Theakston XB are the standard fayre and there is also a
guest ale. The
original farmhouse was reputedly owned by Henry VIII and was later bought by local landowners, the
Greshams, in 1546. In 1936 the building was converted into tea-rooms, becoming a pub
in 1994. For those entertainment moments, there is a marquee at weekends for the
purpose and seating outside for the summer. Titsey was originally the estate village for Titsey
Park and is now a small hamlet. If you cant find Titsey, just look for the large radio mast on Botley Hill
and you cant miss it. If culture is your bag, then there a 3rd century Romano-Celtic
temple to the east of Titsey, and a Roman villa in Titsey Park. No
accommodation here.
| Additional Notes: |
Expensive beer and whole
business is geared around eating, so the drinker is crowded and pushed
around and finds it difficult to get served. Not recommended at weekends. |
