Take the A607 north east from Melton
Mowbray; Waltham on the Wolds is just off this road 5 miles along.
Waltham-on-the-Wolds is a charming village of old stone cottages, some of which
are thatched. It was an important place at one time, as it used to have a weekly
market and annual horse and cattle fairs. It is home to The Marquis of Granny, a
charming yet substantial corner site inn that dates from the 17th century. Over
the years, it has been tastefully modernised, and now offers first class service
and hospitality to regulars and visitors alike. It has recently been refurbished
throughout, and is a wonderful mixture of period detail and modern facilities.
It has a huge floor space, with a carpeted restaurant, a delightful flagstoned
lounge and bar, and a games room. A warm welcoming atmosphere and genuine value
for money pub. The restaurant seats 60 people in comfort, and has a varied menu
(12-2, 6-9; 12-2 Sun) which includes full business lunches, bar snacks and
evening meals, all of which can be cooked to your individual taste. If you like
wine the list is comprehensive and popular. At the bar, you can order from a
wide range of drinks, including three cask ales and a rotating guest ale. These
can be consumed in the bar or lounge, where the seating is comfortable and the
ambience relaxing. Quiz night on Wednesday.
