Situated in the village of Turnchaple, Devon, this is
a real ale pub with a real fire. Service is good for locals but visitors seem to
have to wait.
Poor disabled access but otherwise a local pub with a nautical flair and a very good
'singalong' (bloody good atmosphere) providing you can play a comb washboard etc. Beers
are Navigators Ale 8% @ £1.30 (brewery unknown and numerous other real ales at very
reasonable prices, all beers kept to perfection. Food is cheap and cheerful and is served
when you want it giving reasonable notice (please order food before 2pm at lunchtimes and 9.30pm evenings,
9pm on Sundays). There is accommodation, but I didn't stay the
night but I would suggest it was homely/basic. The worst thing is that visitors may find
they are kept waiting in preference to locals. Still, it's something special. (Don
Crocker).

Notes: |
Please
note Boringdon and Turnchapel are the correct spellings. I don't believe
we have ever sold Navigators Ale, it might have been Old Navigation -
Everards 8.5% but it certainly wasn't £1.30! We don't believe we favour
locals over visitors although we do serve customers quicker if they know
what they want - we sometimes start an order whilst an earlier customer
goes to find out what the rest of the group want! |
