The Cap and Feathers is an old fashioned 15th
century weather-boarded inn in the heart of the Dengie Marshes. The pub proudly
declares that it will accommodate walkers, cyclists and children and dogs. Quite
a catch-all. The inside has welcoming beams and real fires to warm you on those
cold winter nights. There is also meant to be the ghost of a sea captain - Captain Cook
that stalks the pub at night. As this is a tied house for the Crouch Vale
Brewery it has, as you would expect, their beers on. However, it also has guest
ales from other micro breweries. Food is served here both lunch and evening, the
changing menu ranges from soup to ploughman's, from jacket potatoes to
smoked mackerel and beyond to main courses. The Cap does accommodation )not
en-suite) and the breakfasts are hearty. Another good point for visitors is that
the Cap caters for vegetarians and OAP's have a special menu on Tuesday &
Thursday. If you prefer not to inhale smoke while drinking/eating there is a no
smoking room available.
