Set back off the road up a slope,
this is an imposing building. There are two entrances and two bars. The disabled
are only able to enter the pub from the public bar side where there is a ramp
entrance - though once inside you are not able to traverse to the lounge due to
steps. The lounge is to the left on entrance and the bar open to your right. It
is a small corner bar with no room for hanging around, despite stools being
present. Here you will find the usual Marston (W&D) beers plus a guest from
the Marston's range - Ugly Sisters this time around. The beers were kept well
and served with or without sparkler. Prices are fair for this area - very
salubrious. eating in the lounge is mainly in low rise booths roughly cut from
wood and some of the tables are likewise, just dark varnished tree trunk slices.
Some chairs are available also. The walls are covered in horse brasses and local
pictures, although there are some 'art' type ones too. Look up high and you will
see lots of teapots on the plate shelf. The public bar is not spit and sawdust,
but has carpet in places and tables and chairs (fruit machine). The bar is
larger here and less food is served here of an evening, although you can eat in
either bar. The food is standard fayre for a pub, and not at all restaurant
like. We were not overly impressed for the area, but the food was good and
wholesome and filling at a price that wasn't exorbitant. No accommodation here
but a Little Chef on the A46 does it. Well worth a visit if you are on the busy
A46 to Nottingham or wherever and fancy a stop as it is just 5 minutes off the
A46. Out of interest Thrussington is the birthplace in 1782, of artist, John
Ferneley.
