The White Horse is a large, imposing Victorian building lying at the northern end of Parson's Green. In the past it has been both a coaching inn with rooms for travellers and a gin palace with a billiard room and extensive cellars. After our latest and most extensive renovation in the Autumn of 1999 they created a dedicated no-smoking restaurant in what was the old coach house, doubled the size of their kitchens, modernised the lighting and decorated the walls using organic lime wash paints. The result is a pleasing blend of traditional polished mahogany bar and wall panels, wood and flagstone floors, open fires and contemporary lighting and colours enlivened by modern art. One picture features Pistol a captain in Henry's army and one of Sir John Falstaff's loyal men. (Henry IV Part II). He is depicted in tiles in the lobby entrance to the public bar and is faced by Doll Tearsheet , a whore in the Boar's Head Tavern in Eastcheap in the City. They have created facsimile tiles to denote the Ladies' and Gent's loos on each side of the pub. In all likelihood these tiles date from the James' family's refurbishment of the White Horse in 1894. To find the pub, the White Horse overlooks Parson's Green in West London. It is close to the West end (4 miles) and is easily reached from the City, the M4 and M3 motorways. Parson's Green itself is bordered to the north by Fulham Road and to the south by New King's Road. Hammersmith is 1½ miles away, Putney 1 mile, and Wandsworth 2 miles. By tube get off at Parson's Green station (District Line). Turn right out of the tube station and the pub is 150 yards up the road on the corner of the green. They always have at least six regular beers: Draught Bass; Highgate Mild; Harvey's Sussex Bitter; Adnam's Broadside; Rooster's Yankee; and a super aromatic pale ale brewed exclusively for the White Horse called Ranger. They also serve bottled beers from around the world. Food is served at lunch times. By the way, it is quite expensive with soup of the day being £4. Yes, that's correct, £4! We recommend you eat elsewhere then come for a tipple. Beer festivals are held here each moth, check out their web site for details. No accommodation here but try: Albany Hotel, 4-12 Barkston Gardens, London, SW5 0EN (1 km from Parsons Green). Price: from £40-60 ensuite.
