Situated on a sharp bend it's a
surprise there haven't been more accidents here, or for that matter the brewery getting
invaded by motorists. It doesn't do food Sunday, but go there for the beer anyway. On at
the time were at least six guest beers (Coach House, Concertina, etc). There
used to be the Church End brewery out back, but it moved a while ago. Inside, the pub has low beamed ceilings à la country pub -
which it is. This can get smokey in winter as the log fires pump out heat and a little
smoke too. There are lots of 'bits' hanging from the ceiling and every space is covered
(almost). Tables are big kitchen type with benches and medium backed chairs plus stools.
The bar is 'L' shaped and their is little space between it and ceiling so you
have to bend
down to order. The floor is stone flagged and a little uneven in places so watch out after
sampling those guest ales. Staff are friendly and
the service is swift, just make sure they can see you. There is a beer garden outside on
stone flags, though watch the kids as it's next to a field where they can get
lost. Disabled access is OK, though watch for uneven flags and the
toilets (basic with a slight smell) are hard to negotiate by the main entrance. Well worth a visit
just for the beers, but they do good food too, Mon to Sun, at
reasonable prices and it's traditional but homemade and filling. They also have live music
here, though not seen on this occasion. No accommodation here, but you can camp if you
ask.
