Bull's Head (A5127) Birmingham Road, Shenstone, Staffordshire (01543) 480214. An 18th century coaching inn which has also been a court room, this pub is set in a semi-rural community between Birmingham and lichfield. Recently it has become more comercialised with new decor inside and an emphasis on (non-vegetarian) food. It has a large car park which if full can put you off going in. Inside there are a ramshackle warren of rooms that make up the pub, all in the same theme and all with low ceilings. The pub is supposed to be haunted, not by a ghost on this visit, but by men in loud Hawaiian shirts! The beer is what you'd expect from a pub of this sort, Bass and MB Brew IX. However, they do have a changing guest beer on (Fuller's London Pride this time), and judging by the pump clips on the wall of the back bar, they have had some good ones on (Ed. They no longer change the guest as everybody likes Fuller's so much?). Very much a modern pub in old clothes this can be distracting if you like history, but the food is well proportioned and not too expensive £7.95 for a steak cant be bad. Service is quick and efficient, though can get busy. There is a disabled toilet by the car park entrance, but the narrow rooms and close seating is hard to negotiate. No accommodation, but Shenstone railway station is close by if you want to drink and ride.
Recently they have made the front (but back) room larger by removing the reception area.
