This is the home of the Sarah Hughes Brewery. Situated
halfway between Dudley and Wolverhampton, it's not far from the Sedgley Bull
ring - not to be confused with the Birmingham one. The hotel has steps at the
front entrance, but can be accessed elsewhere by wheelchair users. There is a small room on the
left for seating (the corridor by the way is still a popular place to stand for
a drink and a chat), with a snug with fixed bench seating and a green tiled
fireplace. Opposite are two rooms, one a tap room, half panelled with bare bench
seating The other is a family room at the rear, simply furnished with bench
seating. In the middle on the left is the bar, a small Victorian
hatchway servery, hexagonal in shape and small, you have to bend down to see
through. It still has its glazed shutters. The rear room is much larger, a
lanelled smoke room which has a bench seat along one wall and two fireplaces. There are tables and stools as well. A
little dark inside, the pub has much to offer the visitor, including a
conservatory view area and trips around the Victorian tower brewery. Trips are
only available at certain times and groups by appointment only. The beers served
here are all brewed on the premises and are well kept. Very much a locals pub
despite being an attraction in its own right. There is not much here in Sedgley
any more, but the Beacon makes the trip worthwhile. There is a large car park
and beer garden for the summer. No music inside either. The Beacon is best
accessed via the bud from Dudley or Wolverhampton - 558.
