This pub is right by the university of Greenwich and next door to the Greenwich indoor market. In fact its rear doors open out to the market foot traffic. The frontage is nondescript as you would expect in this area, but once inside it has the traditional dark wood floors and dark wood furniture including 'Friends' like leather sofas - which actually makes couple drinking rather difficult a you constantly have to turn your head. However, lots of people like this so that's fair enough. On this visit - Saturday - they didn't have any guest ales on, just the usual one above. In most of the guides it says there are more beers available, so maybe they had a rush on Friday night. The pub dates from 1830, though the inside is more recent. There is even a large fish tank in the far, darkened, room. There are two distinct areas to sit with sofas and tables/chairs and one small-ish bar with over mantle. There is no food served here, for that try the Spanish Galleon down the road on the corner. The local tube is the Docklands Light Railway - Cutty Sark stop.
This is a narrow pub come bar that serves only beers from the Meantime brewery. These are all lagers except for one, the Blonde brewed by Roosters as the house beer, and actually are well worth seeking out. Try some samples first if you are not sure, they are happy to offer them to you. The bar is a small area against one wall with an overhang, so you have to bend to be seen if you are tall. The floors are all dark wood with some light wood tables and chairs, there is also a standing area at the front of the pub. Seating to the rear is comfortable, some comfy chairs, some benches, some chairs, etc. As you go towards the small beer garden (and we mean small patio) there is an area that has been opened up by the addition of a high glass roof which brings a whole new experience to pub life. In the summer this room is very nice indeed. I can see the opposite in rain or winter, but don't mind me. The decor is very modern, as is the menu which is very Mediterranean. Prices for food are typical of London, but the quality of food is good. Well worth seeking out and not too far from the Docklands Light Railway and train stations. No accommodation here. See this website
This is a Shepherd Neame pub on the corner of the same street as the Admiral Hardy. A more traditional pub layout with a long bar that trails through the three rooms. A traditional dark carpet in places and dark wood furniture as both round and square tables, chairs and stools. Two areas are for seating and there is a TV in one room for sport. The middle space is where the food counter is and you can see your food in a chiller for salads, etc. Food is served both lunch and evening and is reasonably priced and looks home made. Large chalk boards set out what is available. There are even a good few vegetarian choices available. There is a tiled conservatory for non smokers which also gives you a bit of sunlight in the summer. Access for the disabled is good and there is a toilet available. Toilets for the non-disabled are cramped and require corridor negotiation. The beers on are all from the Sheps range and are well kept and served, though the Australians staff are not familiar with sparkler removal. No accommodation here, though close to the tube - Cutty Sark stop and the ship is within sight of the pub.
