Set on the Moors National Park, this
pub is a good place to stop and have a rest.
The pub was a working forge up to 1986 and
many of the tools, the leather bellows and the anvil still remain as a reminder
of its working days. In 1988 it was converted into an inn and was called The Old
Forge House. Today only the presence of the old furnace as an ornamental area,
and the anvil set in the middle of the floor remind you of the buildings former
life. There are 7 frequently changing ales to choose from. Food is also served
here (not Sunday evening nor all day Monday), fresh and home cooked all from
local produce. Choices range from duck to fillet steak or stuffed pork fillet.
Sunday is carvery day. Food is served in the 32 cover restaurant. There is
accommodation here, 2 double and 2 twin rooms, all en-suite, with colour
television, radio alarm and tea making facilities. You can also park your
caravan here for the duration as they have electrical points in the paddock.
There is live music at the Anvil on the first Wednesday of the month. They also
have occasional beer festivals.
