ROWINGTON.

A 300 year-old pub situated just south of Rowington village on the B4439. This inn is a welcoming sight on a bend on the slow route to Warwick. The area is rather posh, but the Cock Horse retains a friendly welcoming air. You enter through a small front door with its own porch - though there is a marquee for sitting outside under cover to avoid British weather. The front door opens onto the bar which is a rather small 'L' shaped affair to the right. It has stools round it and there are four handpumps serving good real ale - though a little cold for me, but don't let that put you off as it was cold out too when I visited. They also serve wine by the glass or bottle, but they do not have any bottled beers of note. The low beamed ceilings are atmospheric, but can exaggerate sound - they have live music here most Fridays and an acoustic rock group 'William and Friends' practice in the bar on Sundays for free. There are only two rooms in the pub and the other is the restaurant which has its own bar, though this is not always open for seating as it is set out ready for food. There is a real fire in the bar to the left which warms the pub, though it only takes a few bodies to do that as it can be described as cosy. The restaurant - non-smoking - has square tables and chairs with pads. The chalk board over the fireplace sets out the menu though there is a paper version. Choices are mainly meat orientated and cost up to £14 for honey roast duck. All food is cooked on the premises to order. Food is served 12-2 and 6-9 Monday  to Saturday and 12-4pm Sunday. The landlord is very welcoming and makes sure he greets almost everybody who enters - just what a landlord should be. For the summer there are picnic benches out the front with umbrellas and there is a small stream running to the side of the pub. No accommodation here. Access for the disabled is not possible.
